OUR MISSION
The purpose of the agency shall be to educate and assist the general public on the intelligent and prudent use of consumer credit; to provide professional budget and housing counseling to families and individuals; and, where appropriate, arrange a debt management program for financially distressed consumers to liquidate their debts in an orderly and equitable manner.
OUR HISTORY
Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northeastern Pa. Inc. was founded in 1978 by three concerned and community-minded businessmen from the Scranton area. They obtained a charter from the National Foundation for Consumer Credit. On April 27th, 1978, CCCS of NEPA was officially registered as a Pennsylvania non-profit organization.
CCCS of NEPA started out as a small, struggling one-person operation located in Scranton. In 1983, we began counseling in Wilkes-Barre. In 1984, CCCS of NEPA grew to four employees.
In 1989, due to consumer demand, we opened a full-time branch office in Wilkes-Barre. Subsequently, branch offices were also established in Stroudsburg, Williamsport, and State College. In addition, satellite locations were established in Sunbury, Hazleton, Bloomsburg, and Milford.
In 2003, we celebrated 25 years of service to the community. CCCS of NEPA has evolved from a small, local operation into a vibrant, regional organization. We now have 10 locations serving consumers in a western, northeastern, and central Pennsylvania.
CCCS of NEPA is an authorized housing counseling agency for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA).
We are registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Charitable Organizations. We are a member of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. We are accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
CCCS of NEPA is the pre-eminent provider of budget counseling, debt management, housing counseling, and financial literacy in western, northeastern, and central Pennsylvania.
In January 2016 CCCS of NEPA was acquired by Advantage Credit Counseling Service, Inc. (Advantage CCS). By merging CCCS of NEPA into the Advantage CCS family, we can serve consumers in more office locations than ever before. We now have a strong presence in western, central, and northeastern Pennsylvania to allow more clients to receive the in-person counseling they so desire. This new partnership will ensure that we reach and help as many consumers as possible.

Advantage CCS is Pennsylvania’s largest credit counseling and debt management agency. CCCS of NEPA will continue to be a trusted community partner in central and northeastern Pennsylvania. The joined agencies will both continue to offer credit counseling, debt management, housing counseling, as well as bankruptcy counseling and bankruptcy education services.
Founded in 1968, Advantage CCS is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with multiple office locations across the state. Advantage CCS is a Non-Profit credit counseling agency that is accredited and licensed. We are proud members of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) and accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
